Natural History Illustration
As well as botanical subjects, the natural world provides a vast amount of inspiration for Sarah’s work. She makes regular visits to the Hampshire Cultural Trust natural science and geological collections and also makes specific field trips to sketch subjects.
Natural history subjects can be portrayed as small still-life paintings, studies of a particular species and also larger compositions that encompass a variety of habitats and species.
A variety of media is used including pen and ink, watercolour, gouache (opaque watercolour), graphite pencil and watercolour on vellum.
Many of Sarah’s illustrations are suitable for use within the design of interpretation resources for nature reserves and other green spaces.
